Dragon Quest has some serious fandom backing it up. In Japan some would say that it’s more popular than the Final Fantasy series. Here in the West, Final Fantasy has taken a strong lead, but Dragon Quest fans do exist among us. Personally I’m also a huge fan of Dragon Quest but for different reasons then I am a fan of Final Fantasy. The RPG experience with Dragon Quest is unique and having played through the series of games spanning multiple consoles, I was pleased to see Dragon Quest VI coming out for the Nintendo DS.

The game was originally released in Japan back in 1995 and stands as the last game in the Zenithia trilogy. The game stands to be an interesting mix of previous series keeping to similar graphics of Dragon Quest V, with minor upgrades, with the class system of Dragon Quest III returning. The turn based style gaming will be familiar to all that have played the Dragon Quest series with over world views as you traverse the maps and first person perspectives as you fight your enemies. Additions like animations when enemies attack are just one of the many enriching additions to the game to make it more enjoyable.

Below is the Japanese trailer for the game with the character actors speaking in Spanish and Japanese translations below. I’m as befuddled as you, don’t try to sort it out, your head will implode.. While minimal game footage is shown, it’s sure to be a fun ride for all fans. So get your ocarina ready, dust off your Spanish, and get yourself a crazy hair do to enjoy this ride.

Square Enix is no doubt forecasting a very prosperous year with its flagship series, Final Fantasy. Two titles are scheduled to be released with the first, Final Fantasy XIII, for the PS3 in March, followed by the release of Final Fantasy XIV later in the year for both PS3 and PC. Final Fantasy XIII h as made a huge splash in the market with audiences considering it one of the more highly anticipated games for the PS3 thus far.

Still, little has been shared about Final Fantasy XIV, until now. Those of you familiar with Final Fantasy XI will remember the MMORPG style of creating your character to explore the lands of Vana’diel. It was a critical success drawing huge audiences into the world in the first Final Fantasy to go online. The game boasted an average between 200,000 and 300,000 gamers daily in 2006.

Now with Final Fantasy XIV on the horizon, the next chapter of Final Fantasy’s online endeavors is sure to be received with much fanfare. This time the game takes place in the world of Eorzea with a massive graphics upgrade and much more expansive environment allowing for more singular activities as opposed to the heavy group based activities that plauged Final Fantasy XI. It appears thus far that Final Fantasy XIV is a very well balanced game introducing a new collection of races to explore the land.

The is slated for a 2010 release but there are no details on an exact date. Nevertheless, for Final Fantasy fans everywhere, this year is going to be a great year. Square Enix undoubtedly will be prepared with this release, ensuring that the mistakes that marred Final Fantasy XI’s release, shortage of hard drives and network adapter for the PS2, will not occur this go around.

Be on the look out as more details are released.

You can imagine my delight when Square-Enix began developing games for the iPod/iPhone. Most recently I’ve been heavily playing Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes. The game once again shows the innovation and thought put into the game.

The game is a basic tactical RPG, in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics, with a basic storyline of a young hero, Ziggy, on a mission to find his kidnapped brother in a world where robots and cyborgs are oppressing humanity. In his efforts he becomes a “conductor” with the ability to summon warriors called “Tune Troops” into battle. The name “Tune Troops” stems from the process of creating troops which relies heavily on the type of music you have on your mobile device. This is innovative because all users will have different playlists, different styles, and different genres of music that can help to create over 50 types of troops falling into Soldier, Mage, Archer, Knight and Monk categories.

Based on the type of song, the artist, and the number of times you’ve listened to it, your troops stats are created and the character class is determined. This can create a different gaming experience every time you play. The game is displayed in an over world map view as you move from mission to mission, and eventually opens up to battlefields where chess like fighting-styles play out.

I highly recommend if you’re a fan of RPG games that you give this game a look. Unfortunately the game price is pretty steep, sitting at $9.99, but so far the game has returned hours of value and character creation. The game is made even more interesting since “Tune Troops” can only be called into battle a certain number of times before disappearing, forcing the player to juggle their resources effectively.

It’s hit the internet pretty hard, and speculation is running wild. Fans of Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy series are coming together to share their thoughts on recently leaked footage of a demo that could very well be a new Final Fantasy game under development. If this footage is indeed for the series, Square-Enix has been quiet on the game, as it’s not on the radar for their release schedule. But we all know development in gaming is fast paced and lots of ideas can be kicked around along with a lot of tests.

What give this game some validity is the messaging, coming from ex-developers who claim this game was indeed under development based on prior concept art. The developer in question was Swedish game company GRIN, which has recently closed its doors. The concept art has been upgraded and now we can see the game in action.

According to various sites the rumor mills is buzzing on just what has happened to this game. It’s being said that the game is still under development and has been transferred to Square-Enix owned Eidos Montreal. If they are continuing to develop this game, it looks impressive. The in game footage lacks the standard battle systems that we’ve become so familiar with, showing neither battle damage numbers or any other measurable bars of magic or hit points. Could this be the beginnings of another MMORPG?

Right now cites sources will be hard to come by, and perhaps it’s not an MMORPG, just so early in development that battle systems and such had not been added. So let’s consider this a BIG rumor, but it’s always nice to dream of what we’d like it to be. Take a look at the footage and leave your comments below. Is this much ado about nothing?

No matter what generation system you’re on, there’s always that game that breaks the mold for games. Typically it’s been Final Fantasy games, which have gone multiple discs. We’ve seen other games follow suit, but it’s almost expected for Final Fantasy to push the limits of physical media storage.

It has recently been confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII will span three discs upon its release on the Xbox 360. The same cannot be said for the PS3 which will be only on singular Blue Ray Disc. The difference is in the media format that each is relying on, there are no extra being released on either system to account for the extra discs.

Gamers will fall into one of two camps, one being of the mindset that multiple discs is not a problem as long as the experience is fun, the game transitions smoothly and the breaks come in appropriate parts of the game. The other camp has the mindset of hating games that come in multiple discs, feeling the time it takes to change discs removes the player from the experience all together. Personally it seems silly to me to for anyone to be upset over the extra discs. Older PC games required changing of multiple CD and then DVD’s in order to continue a game, and the comfort of past games being on one disc only has made us lazy for the silliest of things.

So what’s your take? Do multiple game discs take you out of the experience or do you not care? Let us know in the comments below!

The game is 3D Dot Game Heroes, managing to be both retro and new at the same time this is an intriging title and at the moment it only seems set for release in japan.

Although one might think this takes the idea of updating a game to 3d but changing nothing a little too literally. I gotta say the effect is amazing. From reports 3D Dot Game Heroes is an RPG in which the goal is to restore the world back into 2d, presumably so it can fit back on a Nes again.

Still, im not completely convienced by this. Some of the screenshots look fantasic, again reminding me of the old style games while offering the look, and presumably playstyle, of a mordern rpg but isnt that what the Lego games are? Take a look at some of the other screen shots and the game can look decidedly lazy, is this all there is too it? A standard rpg with interesting graphics, I hope not.

Well I’ll reserve judgement for now and the screenshots do look very neat.

SECRETS

Blitzball easy EXP code
During a blitzball game, go to one of the corners on the right side of the arena, also referred to as the easy win bug. While there, put the two players that you want to gain experience side by side, and have them pass the ball repeatedly to each other. Each pass gives you 1 EXP, and if there’s at least two minutes on the clock, you can accumulate up to 30 EXP.

Defeating Evrae Atlana easily
When you fight Evrae Atlana underwater in Bevelle, simply use some Phoenix Downs on her and she should die quickly. If you don’t have any Phoenix Downs, X-Potions and Elixers work wonders against her as well.

Get Yojimbo at a reduced price
When you find Yojimbo, wait for him to make his offer. After he makes the offer, which I believe is 300,000 gil, offer him half of what he wants plus 1 gil. He will then lower his asking price. Increase your offer by 1 gil, which will force him to lower it again. This time, he will not take any amount much lower, so offer him about 5-10,000 gil less than what he wants, generally around 190,000, and he should take it.
If not, repeat the process and simply offer a little more than your previous offer.
If you offer him TRIPLE what he wants at any time, you not only gain Yojimbo, but he gives you 2 Teleport Spheres as well.

Secret Farplane Scene
After you get the Airship go back to Guadosalam. Follow Tromell up to the Farplane. Talk with Lulu to view the secret scene.

Blitzball Easy Win Bug
Whenever you are playing Blitzball, and currently are winning (i.e. your score is higher than the other team’s) just swim behind your own goalie. Stay there and everyone else on the field will go to the other side and swim in circles. Sometimes, a member of the opposite team will follow you. Just shake him loose (breaking through him is an easy way) and he too will just leave you alone. Stay there for the remainder of the game and you will win.

Bribing glitch
When bribing a monster it sometimes misses. Then you have to bribe again and waste money.Well, if it misses, you can bribe them again for 0.This will actually count as bribing again. This is a good way of saving money bribing without having to reset, especially if the monster takes over 1,000,000 gil to bribe.

UNLOCKABLES

Airship Passwords

There are also hidden locations accessible by using the ‘Input’ feature found in the airship command list. You can find these passwords by deciphering Al Bhed messages left in specific locations around Spira. Note that all of the passwords are case-sensitive.

Overdrive: Energy Blast for Valefor
Valefor also has a second Overdirve that you can acquire once Yuna join the party. Return to Besaid and speak to the little girl with a dog standing next to the temple, and you’ll receive an item that gives Valefor the Overdrive Energy Blast. If the little girl isn’t near the temple, then look for her inside the item shop. Energy Blast inflicts greater damage at the cost of a higher recovery time.
