I recently came across a great Portal 2 walkthrough video from PsyStarcraft. Normally, Psy is know for his commentary and play in Starcraft 2, but he posted these videos for a bit of a laugh. Plus, they are amazing quality!

There is no doubt that the world of esports is growing and that there are a lot of gamers out there that can now make a living from playing games professionally. Turtle Entertainment and Calibur11 have teamed up to create some great opportunities for gamers in Europe.

Until now the esports scene is dominated by Starcraft 2, but this partnership aims to promote Fifa 11 to Call of Duty Black Ops.

Throughout May and June Calibur11 will be running tournaments and offering prizes of some amazing gaming gear. The tournaments will be held by Consoles Sports League (CSL), which is owned by Turtle Entertainment.

It seems as though LucasArts are placing a major bet on the Unreal Engine 3. LucasArts has signed a multi-year license deal that will allow Epic Games to use the Unreal Engine 3.

Epic VP Mark Rein echoed that sentiment when he trumpeted “Unreal Engine 3′s ability to scale across platforms, from mobile, through PC and console all the way up to the next generation of games.”

Here is an idea on what you can expect from Epic Games when they use the Unreal Engine 3.

The Minecraft developer was trying to impose a very small fee ($5) in exchange for the sites source code, but it seems like the amount was way too much for the community. Now they have decided to give away the full Minecraft source code for free.

Nintendo have just confirmed that the Wii 2 (Project Cafe) will be coming to E3 2011. E3 is a very big video game conference in the USA that is happening on June 7th. Nintendo will be allowing visitors to E3 to play the upcoming Wii 2, which will be released in 2012.

I really wish I was going to E3 now!

There have been a lot of rumours about the successor to the Wii (Project Cafe).

According to an anonymous tip to IGN:

• Project Cafe will run off AMD’s R700 GPU architecture
• It’s CPU will be a custom-built triple-core IBM PowerPC chipset
• Output at 1080p
• Support for stereoscopic 3D
• It will look like a modern re-imagining of the classic SNES form

It is expected that this new system to be priced between $350 – $400.

Dice has been very keen to push that the main platform for Battlefield 3 is the PC, most notably 64 player support (as opposed to only 24 for consoles). DICE executive producer Patrick Bach responded to a question regarding PC versus consoles, and it was clear that Bach and DICE are in favor on PCs at this point.

Asked specifically whether he feels if consoles are holding PC gaming back, Bach replied “Yes, Absolutely”, and added “That’s the biggest problem we have today”. He went on, saying that most games are made for the lowest common denominator (i.e. consoles), and that console games are generally ported to the PC with some higher resolution textures. Bach stressed that DICE is doing the opposite with Battlefield 3 — the PC version is the lead version and the console versions will be scaled down, as opposed to console version being scaled up to the PC.

World of Warcraft has millions of players worldwide, but this has to be a first. Someone has actually played WOW and leveled up to 85 without killing a single unit. You can see the character sheet here.

How did this happen? With a huge amount of time, exploration, gathering and crafting!

The player, who goes by the name of “Everbloom”, also intended not to complete a single quest over the course of what I’m going to call “the ordeal”, but she was apparently awarded one “accidentally” when she opened a letter from an NPC.

This all took a total of four months, but the player must not have had a life at all for those four months.

Aperture spokesperson Cave Johnson can make anything funny. Here is the latest trailer for Portal 2. It just keeps getting better and better!

Valve’s Chet Faliszek has been talking about the extended length of Portal 2.

“We were constantly testing the pacing to make sure that it felt right, that it was never too short or too long,” he said.

“You know when you go see a three-hour movie, but you’re enjoying it so much that it flies by in an hour and a half? That’s the feeling we want, where you get your money’s worth and it’s a big game, but it doesn’t feel boring, that there’s no filler. It’s fast-paced, and well-paced.”

Portal 2 will be released next week.
