There have been a lot of rumours lately about the new PSP 2 and today we received some leaked images of the device. Here is a rendering of what the PSP 2 looks like. The PSP 2 features a touchscreen, dual analog controls, a rear facing camera and a trackpad.

It will be interesting to see if PS2 games will work on the PSP 2.

Activision has announced that Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars will be released on the 18th February in the UK. The game will feature 20 story-based missions and an additional 40 bonus levels, and the intriguing bonus of controlling a droid army in an RTS-style game mode.

Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars will be released on all formats: Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP and PC (and most likely the Atari Jaguar)

I still cant believe they are making more Star Wars titles! Its probably about time to give up on that brand.

Sony has just confirmed that ModNation Racers will be released on PS3 and PSP on the 25 May in North America. The company said that it hopes to release the United Front Games developed title during the same week in Europe.

“ModNation Racers is the first HD kart racing game, with the accessibility that you expect from a kart racing title, but with the physicality of a racing game,” Dan Sochan, producer of the PS3 version, told us last year.

“The key to this is we wanted to have a deep customisation tool, probably one of the deepest you’ve ever seen in a racing game, which really ties into the play, create and share genre.”

Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest will be hitting the PS3, PS2, PSP, DS and Wii this coming Fall, giving users the chance to run around as the titular elf slaying orcs and all other manner of dark, evil creatures.

As such, it is being marketed as a family friendly action adventure title. I can see it now. Mom, Dad and Johnny gather besides the big screen with motion sensing controllers in hand. Skip, the dog, growls quietly in the corner. Next thing you know, the doors of Moria are broken by a giant troll, Skip barks uncontrollably and Mom yells, “You get them Johnny. Stab that orc. Poke the troll in the eye. Swing that controller harder!”

Okay, sarcasm about a family friendly LOTR title aside, Aragorn’s Quest will feature voice acting done by many of the actors from the movies, and is being developed by Headstrong Games for the consoles and TT Fusion for the handhelds.

Disney Interactive Studios has revealed Toy Story 3: The Video Game for PS3, 360, Wii, DS and PSP, due out on June 15.

The game, being developed by Avalanche Software, will apparently be “Disney’s first open-world gameplay for kids”, obviously following the antics of the upcoming Pixar film.

The main mode is the ‘Toy Box’ mode, which apparently is “a virtual box full of toys” which Disney says “taps into the beloved franchise’s humor and brings fans into the toys’ world to create their own unique story”.

“Toy Box mode brings cowboys, space rangers, dinosaurs, and little green aliens together to create adventures only possible in a child’s imagination. Kids, families and fans will dive into Andy’s toy box with creativity driving their own stories and adventures.”

It goes on: “In addition to the Toy Box mode, the console versions put the toys in non-film related environments and situations such as light videogame combat with Buzz Lightyear.”

FIFA 10 has sold 2.2 million units in the UK and EA believes it could go on to become the bestselling game in the series so far.

Last week EA unveiled its World Cup tie-in title, which is due out on April 30 across Wii, PSP, Xbox 360 and PS3. EA Sports 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa will feature all 199 national teams that took part in qualification, the ten official stadiums to be used in the competition, plus stadiums from each qualifying region.

“There’s no denying FIFA 10 is the best football game ever and the innovations we have brought to the genre over the years have helped get us to where we are now,” EA Sports’ marketing manager Trevor Uzice told MCV.

“We’re all massive football fans and that definitely comes across in our campaigns. All departments work closely to make sure we’re taking the game to the right audiences and maximise every opportunity.”

The PSPgo hasnt really been the success most people thought it was going to be. Sales haven’t been crazy, and most seem to have completely ignored the system’s launch entirely. Now according to sources Sony has decided to relaunch the PSPgo.

Even when compared to the other issues the PSPgo has, the high price seems to be paramount for keeping it out of gamers’ hands. It’s more expensive than the other models by almost $100, and doesn’t even have all of the content the regular system has.

While it retained its weekly lead, no doubt aided by PSP exclusive Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, which again topped the software chart, sales of Sony’s handheld more than halved to 71,186 units.

Hardware sales were down across the board as Wii remained in second place, comfortably outperforming the PS3 in third.

DSi LL leapfrogged DSi, while Xbox 360 once again placed ahead of PS2 and PSPgo.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii retained second place ahead of the week’s highest new entry, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.

Friend Collection and Wii Fit Plus both fell one place, to fourth and fifth respectively.

Tekken 6 for PSP debuted in sixth place, one spot ahead of fellow new entry Last Window: Mayonaka No Yakusoku for DS.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising also made its chart debut, with the PS3 version entering at 20 and the Xbox 360 edition at 26, while Batman: Arkham Asylum for PS3 was new at 25 and Kentoushi: Gladiator Begins for PSP entered at 19.

For all you people who can’t get enough of Star wars Battlefront and also have a PSP (or a DS), here is the latest video. Unfortunately, as it says in the tiny white writing, it isn’t actually in game footage. So apart from the fact it doesn’t reflect the game in anyway whatsoever, it’s a pretty neat looking vid. According to Activision the game is due out early November. Hopefully we’ll get to see some proper in-game footage before then.

PCworld reported that the PSP Go will be launching with 100 games although there actually may be more available.

On the official Playstation blog, Sony Hardware Marketing Director John Koller said 150 PSP games, previously available on UMD, will be up for download. There are also a handful of cheaper, smaller-scale games, called “PSP Minis,” and roughly 60 classic PS1 games. More than 2,300 movies and 13,000 TV shows are also available.

Sony has said that it will keep supporting the PSP-3000 and the UMD format, so the company isn’t diving completely into download territory. At $250, the PSP Go is competing not only with the iPod Touch and the Nintendo DS, but the $170 PSP-3000 as well. Sony shouldn’t have a problem with that. [via Playstation.Blog]

I’m a little sceptical about this game. For the DS, it has good graphics and a unique way of playing a GTA – via a touch screen. But how can RockStar successfully port it over to the PSP. The controls would be entirely different and the graphics would be like a slap on the face for a devout PSP player. Even though RockStar have ported games before such as Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories, both to the PS2 – they came from the PSP which is very similar in terms of gameplay and even graphics.

I just hope that RockStar aren’t biting off more than they can chew. If people perceive this as a PSP-first game because of its less than spectacular performance with the DS, then RockStar will be in trouble because their name represents quality and good performance – not cheap ports.

Have you heard? As of August 14 The Sega Genesis is 20 years old, Whoooo! If it were a young adult i’d give him a beer with a cheap card depicting 8-bit footballers before trailing off into rant about how it’s time for him to move out the basement and get himself a proper job. He’s old enough to take care of him self. Of course this is ignoring the fact that in terms of technology, the Genesis is practically a senile old crone.

Yes its a sad fact the average gaming console has about the same life expectancy as a gerbil, but I’m ignoring something even more important. Back in Ol’ Blighty the Sega Genesis, now called the Mega Drive, was released November 30, 1990 which means for me, the Mega Drive is only 18!

Of course, I’d say to the imaginary teenager/granny personifying the Mega Drive in my head, this doesn’t mean you can sit around in your parent’s basement doing nothing, but it might mean giving your free bus pass back.

Leaving the shape shifting apparitions that haunt my imagination alone for a few minutes lets look at what the Mega Drive has given us over these years.

The Mega Drive was initially released in japan October 28, 1988 and the release date for North America was soon announced but it would face stiff competition from the massively popular NES but it wasn’t until it release un Europe, where Master System had already been popular, did the Mega Drive finally take off.

Yes, there were many reasons for the  Mega Drives success, the games were compatible with a lot of the arcade machines at the time, the Master system had already sown the seeds of future enterprise and the advertising campaign was genuinely entertaining and often full of Innuendo and adult humour but personally I blame the Mega Drive’s success on one thing.

Don’t pretend you don’t know who he is. This erinaceinae cerulean, more famously known as Sonic the Hedgehog, first appeared to us in 1991 donning his trademark red shoes and white gloves,  has been running faster than any other Hedgehog (and most other creatures as well for that matter) for almost two decades now. Sure, he’s looking a bit more tired than he used be and his nemesis can’t even remember his own name but even Forrest Gump would agree, 18 years is very impressive.

Sonic has appeared in over 65 games the most recent being Sonic Unleashed and Sonic and the Black Knight but don’t forget about the other classics that Mega Drive has bought us,  Golden Axe,  Altered Beast,  Streets of Rage, the list goes on.  Luckly somebodys managed to to collect 40 of these classic games and put them on DVD.
