It happens that Crystal Dynamics is currently working on the new Tomb Raider game, so does this mean it will have a multiplayer feature?

Oh I really hope that Tomb Raider gets a multiplayer option.

UK retailer GAME has announced some very interesting facts.

“Strong and innovative products are launching well, there is a record installed base of consoles in each of our territories, and customers are responding positively to our specialist offer.

“However, the ongoing weakness in the market performance of hardware and casual gamer products means that we are maintaining our cautious outlook for the remainder of the current financial year.

“Our most significant weeks are still ahead of us, historically representing over 25 per cent of our annual revenues, and every part of our business is primed to deliver everything our customers need.”

That seems to be a very high amount, 25 per cent of their entire revenues come from pre-owned sales. That’s up four per cent from last year.

The retailer’s overall sales are down almost 15 per cent, but GAME say they’ve maintained their market share, and point out that the coming weeks of 2010 are likely to be their most successful by some margin.

There is an interesting promotion running here in the UK at the moment. Friday only, if you turn up to a Game or GameStation store with a bunch of real bananas, you will be able to exchange them for a free copy of the Wii’s excellent Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Only the first 20 customers to do this will get the game; any others will be turned away. Oh, and the other catch: only a handful of stores are currently supporting this promotion:

- All GAME stores on Oxford Street, London
- GAME at Merry Hill, Dudley
- GameStation at Prospect Centre, Hull

The offer kicks off from 8am this Friday morning.

Blockbuster has already filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and it seems like they are now trying to simply get rid of as much dead stock as possible.

It seems as though Blockbuster are now selling Gran Turismo 5 for only 99p! When you trade in two titles from their list of games, of course.

The list of trade in titles eligible for this deal include Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, Call of Duty: Black Ops, F1 2010 and James Bond 007: Blood Stone.

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops has set a new five-day entertainment industry record, grossing over $650 million globally. Activision has broken the previous $550 million five-day sales record set last year by Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare 2.

“Call of Duty has become the first entertainment property in history to set five-day launch records for two consecutive years across all forms of entertainment,” said Activision Blizzard CEO, Robert Kotick, in a statement. ”The title’s success illustrates the mass appeal of interactive entertainment as millions of consumers are choosing to play Call of Duty: Black Ops at unprecedented levels rather than engage in other forms of media.”

Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars will be released on all formats: Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP and PC (and most likely the Atari Jaguar)

I still cant believe they are making more Star Wars titles! Its probably about time to give up on that brand.

More Other M footage and this time we get to take a little peak at combat. If course it looks solid, I wouldn’t expect any less although I am intrigued to see how well the shift between first person view and side view, as the discription of of it sound incredibly good. “Explore and fight in third-person by holding the Wii Remote sideways, and – at any time you choose – switch immediately to a first-person view through Samus’ eyes by simply pointing the Wii Remote at the screen.”

Again, and I can’t say this enough, I’m glad that gaming companies have figured out that 2D games are viable in a 3D era… athough in this case I suppose it is 2.5D what ever that means.

E3 was rather disapointing this year, with Sony and Microsoft squabbling over the casual market it’s not surprising that Nintendo, which had got this out of the system, had some of the must promising looking games of the roster. Epic Mickey, this may be a game about a cartoon mouse but Warren Spector, creator of Deus Ex, had big plans for Epic Mickey. In an interview with Edge he said. ”I started this project wanting to merge the best of adventure games, such as Zelda, platform games, such as Mario, and my own games, such as Deus Ex.”

Of course Disney aren’t known to be the easiest people to work with however Warren seems to be positive about the experience. “it’s been a collaborative process. I’m sure there are people who are terrified, but Disney’s about innovation. Sometimes you have to do something a little scary.”
Here’s the Trailer.

So I’m hunting my giant Clappy fire Bird, happily slapping it with a sword that is so large it defies logic and then a bloody great big dragon turns up, nukes the bird and proceeds to eat me. Now, usually I would scream profanities at my Wii and vow to burn the disc but with Monster Hunter I laugh at the brutal murder of my character and vow to turn the dragon into rare – medium rare steaks.

I have been a casual gamer since I threw my wow character off a cliff in winter spring so, when I picked up a copy of Monster hunter I naturally did so with some trepidation, but after a 4 hour period of being thoroughly confused by my characters mass monster Hunting tendencies and a back pack full of goodies like, “Dung”,” large Dung” and “Paramushrooms” (which makes your character violently throw up when eaten) I finally knew how to make steak’s, potion’s and more weapons which is more or less the basics of the admin that needs to be done in-between beating up animals, taking their obscure parts and turning them into knick knacks like bombs and bug nets. I now run around the wilderness of Monster land ducking and diving underneath fireballs like it was my calling in life. Considering I play my Wii for only a few hours a week Monster Hunter Tri provides instant satisfaction, easily allowing the player to go heads up against the monster you wish to skin into extinction. I have already clocked up over 40 hours and am still not bored and haven’t even had a glimpse of the big bad Monsters yet. This is the beauty of Monster Hunter Tri.

The Battle system is beautiful and surprisingly intuitive. Once you have the hang of the game and understand how to make your character stop, drop, roll and decapitate, the battles become much like a ballet version of Jurassic Park. If you are facing a new monster just run around like a headless chicken evade its attacks until you know how it moves. Then move in for the kill exploiting its weakness’s. It’s as simple as that for nearly every monster but each time it feels fresh and fun.

This isn’t to say it’s not an ordeal of endurance at the same time. You can find yourself duelling with a Monster for up to 50 minutes before your timer runs out but that time flies by. I personally find that I care about your characters life and don’t want him to just crash and burn under your current foes many serrated teeth.

So remember, stop, drop and roll as much as possible so that you don’t end up as Velociraptor food.

• Retro Studios faithfully restores everything that made the original series great, from barrel cannons to mine carts, and then builds on those elements with stunning graphics and new layers of depth to the world and game play. The game offers the
rendered 3-D environments.
• Diddy Kong™ joins the quest. With his trusty backpack, he can produce a jet pack or Peanut Pop Guns to give Donkey Kong more abilities.
• For the first time ever, the franchise features the ability for two people to play together at the same time — one as Donkey Kong, one as Diddy Kong. Players can navigate
the levels separately or as one unit. Diddy Kong can ride on Donkey Kong’s back and hop off whenever he pleases, allowing novice players to ride on Donkey Kong’s back
through more challenging areas of the game.*
• Hidden items, puzzle pieces and other surprises are found all through the jungle.
Spell out K-O-N-G by the end of each level to earn an extra bonus.
• Motion controls give players a real feeling of control. Players move Donkey Kong using the Control Stick on the Nunchuk™ controller and can shake the Wii Remote™ controller to make Donkey Kong slap the ground.
• Vibrant colors, beautiful graphics and fun characters draw players in. Even people
who have never played a Donkey Kong game before can pick up a controller and start collecting loads of bananas.
• Every level offers new fun and new challenges. Sometimes Donkey Kong is running through the jungle, sometimes his action takes place on a tropical beach and other times he must become a master of timing as he jumps chasms in a mine cart.

Seems very old-school. Which is no bad thing. Here’s the vid.
