It seems as though the shortage is down to the fact that Nintendo are still yet to place a figure on how much they expect to sell at launch.

Media Market Bayreuth’s Thomas Adler, noted:

‘If we recall the launch of the DS, the sales began relatively slow,’ he began, explaining that, similar to its predecessor, ‘important titles are missing.’

It will be interesting to see if the Nintendo 3DS can push decent sales or will it be a bit of a disappointment for Nintendo.

Activision has announced that Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars will be released on the 18th February in the UK. The game will feature 20 story-based missions and an additional 40 bonus levels, and the intriguing bonus of controlling a droid army in an RTS-style game mode.

Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars will be released on all formats: Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP and PC (and most likely the Atari Jaguar)

I still cant believe they are making more Star Wars titles! Its probably about time to give up on that brand.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is anticipated to be one of the launch titles for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS. The Nintendo 3DS is highly anticipated and Im really looking forward to seeing Zelda in 3D.

Neko Entertainment, looking to be the worlds first musical platform game just announced the release of Maestro! Green Groove which is available throughout Europe from the Nintendo Shop Channel on Nintendo DSiWare™.

Maestro! Green Groove has an interesting concept, the idea is being  is to combine the “standards of platform gaming “with the “pleasure of musical creation” in a way never done before. It certainly sounds like an intriguing concept.

Green Groove for Nintendo DSiWare™ owners throughout Europe”, said Laurent Lichnewsky, Managing Director of Neko Entertainment, “Its perfect mix of platform adventure gaming and musical creation featuring some of the world’s best known compositions will appeal to players both you and old”.

Set in the deep, dark tropical forests of the Green Groove World, the player will take control of the colourful and music loving Presto. Use of the stylus allows the player to strum, run and tap to the rhythm of a Bollywood musical orchestra whose reinterpretation of classics such as Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, accuracy is key here.

Maestro! Green Groove promises fun challenges including special strings, goofy enemies, crazy targets and epic musical battles against Presto’s rival. This is also one of the only games that utilizes the DSi microphone allowing players to “let their vocal cords loose “with the melodies featured in the game. Whether or not people will be comfortable doing this outside of their house is another issue. After all, the point of hand-helds is to be able to play games on the go.

Well I suppose we each can judge for ourselves but if I had to pick one it would be the reptile, although he looks a bit smug. That pig though looks absolutely terrible.

Nintendo is planning a 3D version of the DS.

Since rivals, Sony, planning to launch various 3D Stuff and the attention that 3D has got lately, Nintendo has decided to cash in with a 3D DS.

This wouldn’t require any external peripheral or glasses like most of the alternatives as Nintendo said that its system will not need such add-ons.

The DS, 3DS’ predecessor, has sold over 125 million units worldwide and it’s existing games should be compatible the new console .

It said the games console will be available at some point either this year or early 2011 and promised more details at E3.

In the game, users will be able to face off against the same obstacles that appear on the show, but do so in four player competitive play. There are so many rumours flying around at the moment about Nintendo releasing a new DS 2.

The first rumor hints at a dual-screen setup that provides a seamless screen when open, so it could be treated as one large screen. The second suggests a more beefy processor inside, allowing for not only better graphics but also HD video. We’ll have to wait and see if these are true, but they both sound reasonable enough to us.

Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest will be hitting the PS3, PS2, PSP, DS and Wii this coming Fall, giving users the chance to run around as the titular elf slaying orcs and all other manner of dark, evil creatures.

As such, it is being marketed as a family friendly action adventure title. I can see it now. Mom, Dad and Johnny gather besides the big screen with motion sensing controllers in hand. Skip, the dog, growls quietly in the corner. Next thing you know, the doors of Moria are broken by a giant troll, Skip barks uncontrollably and Mom yells, “You get them Johnny. Stab that orc. Poke the troll in the eye. Swing that controller harder!”

Okay, sarcasm about a family friendly LOTR title aside, Aragorn’s Quest will feature voice acting done by many of the actors from the movies, and is being developed by Headstrong Games for the consoles and TT Fusion for the handhelds.

The video shows off the game’s use of real life soccer stars, special abilities and team customization options. It also gives us a glimpse of athletes that oddly resemble bobble head dolls. I’m not sure what’s worse, that presentation choice, or the fact that it has frequently been done before. I digress. Nintendo is set to run a theme-based design challenge and winners will have their microgames made available to anyone who owns a copy of the game.

Do it Yourself also lets users draw four-panel black and white comics to share with friends, and create music using 90 sample songs as a guide.

By downloading the WiiWare game WarioWare: Do It Yourself – Showcase, owners of the DS game will be able to access a further 70 microgames and play their DS creations on the telly.

Disney Interactive Studios has revealed Toy Story 3: The Video Game for PS3, 360, Wii, DS and PSP, due out on June 15.

The game, being developed by Avalanche Software, will apparently be “Disney’s first open-world gameplay for kids”, obviously following the antics of the upcoming Pixar film.

The main mode is the ‘Toy Box’ mode, which apparently is “a virtual box full of toys” which Disney says “taps into the beloved franchise’s humor and brings fans into the toys’ world to create their own unique story”.

“Toy Box mode brings cowboys, space rangers, dinosaurs, and little green aliens together to create adventures only possible in a child’s imagination. Kids, families and fans will dive into Andy’s toy box with creativity driving their own stories and adventures.”

It goes on: “In addition to the Toy Box mode, the console versions put the toys in non-film related environments and situations such as light videogame combat with Buzz Lightyear.”

The game was originally released in Japan back in 1995 and stands as the last game in the Zenithia trilogy. The game stands to be an interesting mix of previous series keeping to similar graphics of Dragon Quest V, with minor upgrades, with the class system of Dragon Quest III returning. The turn based style gaming will be familiar to all that have played the Dragon Quest series with over world views as you traverse the maps and first person perspectives as you fight your enemies. Additions like animations when enemies attack are just one of the many enriching additions to the game to make it more enjoyable.

DSi XL to be launched 1st Quarter in North America

The XL looks to be at least 93% larger than it’s original design. This will not only increase the screen size, but it will also add some weight to it, perhaps not making it as portable as a user would like. While rumors were abound that this model was made specifically for “old” people, Nintendo has adamantly denied any such thing. While the screen real estate may be great for the hard of seeing, even for regular gamers, having a larger screen, new screen touch sensitivity, and pre-installed DSi software that will keep the device connected to an internet connection as long as Wi-fi is available is a sure fire sale for sure.

It will be interesting to see how Nintendo works with the extra real estate and what games will do to take advantage of this added bonus. There is no set price for the new addition to the DS lineup, but we’re looking at something approximately $200 or slightly higher. Any more would be unreasonable as you can practically pick up another 3rd generation gaming platform for a price higher than that.
