How to Make Xbox 360 Wireless on a Budget

I love playing on Xbox Live, but my Xbox is in a different room than my router. So I have an annoying cable running all around my house. The wireless adapter that Xbox sells is $100. I knew there had to be a cheaper way.

  1. A wireless router is needed to make this work. Go to DD-WRT website and check for routers that are compatible. Maybe you have an old one that will work or you might have to buy one. Check eBay for a good deal or get a new one, either way you will not have to spend $100.
  2. Follow the instructions corresponding to your router. Connect the router to the computer via Ethernet cable and update the routers firmware with the DD-WRT software.
  3. Enter the router’s IP address into a web browser. This will bring up the DD-WRT interface page. Switch the router setting’s to “client mode”. Client mode enable the router to receive an internet signal.
  4. Disconnect the router from the computer. Connect the router to the Xbox with a short Ethernet cable. Restore the original network settings on the computer. Power up console and connect to Xbox Live.
