How to Add Wii to Wireless Internet

The Wii gaming console from Nintendo is plenty of fun without connecting to the internet. However being able to make friends and talk to them through Missinger only adds to the fun while opening up a whole new world for your television. Not to mention checking your email, facebook, myspace, etc. No need for a wireless adapter because the Wii has Wi-Fi built in.
- Set up Wii according to the Wii Operations Manual for System Setup included with the console.
- Turn on the Wii console directly or with the Wii remote. Select appropriate source from your television’s input source list. This will most likely be AV or Component 1, 2, 3 or 4 since the Wii does not have high definition capabilities. No need to look for HDMI 1, 2, 3, etc. A black screen with warnings appears first.Wait a few seconds for this screen to disappear or select A from the Wii remote to proceed to the next screen.
- New screen appears. Select the Wii emblem on the lower left of the television screen by moving your remote until the hand icon goes over it and click A to select the emblem.
- New screen appears with choices for Data Management or Wii Settings. Select Wii Settings on the right.
- Now you will see four different selections to choose from: Console Nickname, Calender, Screen and Sound. Click arrow to the right of these selections to proceed to the next screen.
- Now you will see four more different selections to choose from: Parental Controls, Sensor Bar, Internet and WiiConnect 24. Select Internet by pressing the A button on your Wii remote.
- Now you will see three choices: Connection Settings, Console Information and User Agreement. Choose Connection Settings.
- Now are two choices: Wireless or Wired connection. Choose Wireless.
- Two options will appear next: Search for an Access Point and Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. Select Search for an Access Point. A little note: If you did not have a wireless network then you would need the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector which would enable your Wii to wirelessly connect with a connection from a wired computer. You’re almost done!
- A screen will appear telling you to choose access point you intend to connect to: This means select whatever name you put into your wireless router for your home network. Even if you did not set your network name to broadcast you will be able to see your network name. It will not be shown to any internet device outside of your network. Others will see “unknown network”. Select OK.
- Select your wireless network, input the password or key and click OK. A prompt will come up asking if you want to save these settings. Click OK. System lets you know that connection settings have been saved and will then prompt you to start a connection test. Click OK. If you have put in the appropriate password, your system will pass the connection test. Enjoy surfing the web with the Wii. You can post messages on the Wii Message Board, post photos and exchange messages with your Wii Friends.
