Missile Command Primed for Theatrical Release

They’ve gone and done it. They’ve taken a property of our childhoods and bastardized it for big screen release. If there’s one thing we’ve learned after all these years is that no one has been able to really make a consistent stab at making successful transitions from video games to movies. We’ve seen movies like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Hitman, and more that do more of a disservice to the franchise rather than further it.

This leads us to today, where the game Missile Command is now getting prepped and primed for theatrical release. The question is why? The game Missile Command was a straight forward game of defense and strategy. The game was never meant to have any background, character development, love story, climax, or even build up. Yet somehow Hollywood has found a way to take a simple game, and turn it into a script. We’ve seen this before, and it surely won’t be the last, but the question is still why?

For the money? Most definitely, but at what point does it stop? Before you know we’ll see a Dig Dug movie, perhaps a Burger Time movie, or even a Super Mario Bros movie…oh wait that sucked too.

What are your thoughts? Do you like game movies? Resident Evil was pretty good, but each one after seems a bit of a stretch. There are some examples of good ones, but overall the franchises we’ve seen are torn apart by the greed of the silver screen.
